Fairwinds Veterans Law is owned and operated by Jessica Simmons, an attorney exclusively specializing in veterans law. After completing her undergraduate degree in Political Science, Jessica enlisted in the U.S. Navy where she served for over six years as a Master-at-Arms. During her service, Jessica was twice published in the Proceedings, a professional military journal of the U.S. Naval Institute, and she extensively volunteered in support of various military causes like the Sea Cadets and the 50th Anniversary of the Battle of Midway Commemoration Series. Jessica ultimately separated from the Navy in 2018 with several awards and citations, to include two Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals and the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal.
Following her naval service, Jessica attended the James E. Rogers College of Law at the University of Arizona. There, she was selected for the prestigious Udall Prosecutorial Fellowship and received multiple merit-based scholarships, to include the Mary Anne Richey and James A. Walsh Scholarships. Jessica also served as a student attorney with the Veterans’ Advocacy Law Clinic, Arizona’s only pro bono veterans law clinic, where she represented criminal defendants in Veteran Treatment Court and veterans pursuing discharge upgrades. Finally, Jessica served as a Note & Comment Editor on the Arizona Journal of International and Comparative Law, a peer-reviewed academic law journal where she was later published for her research paper, “Fighting for Citizenship: A Look at Military Paths to Citizenship in the United States and France.”
After graduating law school, Jessica joined Vietnam Veterans of America as a National Appeals Attorney. There, she represented veterans appealing VA disability claims to the Board of Veterans’ Appeals, ultimately securing her clients nearly $1 million dollars in past due benefits in less than a year. Armed with her expert knowledge in veterans law and passion for service, Jessica later founded Fairwinds Veterans Law, a solo practice exclusively dedicated to serving veterans nationwide.
